George Gilbert's vision In the 1970s and 1980s, George Gilbert worked for a major chemical distributor in the Connecticut area, distributing inorganic chemicals to industry. By the late 1980s he had been bitten by the entrepreneurial spirit and felt that the time was right to utilize his experience and ideas to promote business under his own banner.
At the same time, Chris Jones, president of R.M. Jones & Co., Inc. was looking for additional opportunities in the chemical industry. A mutual friend introduced him to Mr. Gilbert and the result was a friendship and business relationship that has worked out well for everyone. Mr. Gilbert's experience in chemical distribution, customer relationships and technical skills nicely complimented the infrastructure that Mr. Jones already had established. Combining these strengths made it possible to build a business that is quickly becoming New England's premier distributor of inorganic chemistries. Gilbert & Jones planned to return value to its customers and shareholders through a rapid growth in market share. Customers would chose Gilbert & Jones because of three critical assets:
In addition, the Company would offer exceptional level of service through above average customer service, dedicated sales force, local stocking, fast deliveries and state-of-the-art compliance. Gilbert & Jones established a sales goal of $1 million in its first year of operation. It easily exceeded that objective and - even more impressively - the company has been consistently exceeding goals since its first day of operations in October 1991. |
